The 2007 Kaitaia College Stage Challenge production was ironically called ‘Second Chance’. A forty seven strong - performance troupe delivered their anti-drugs message with style and sophistication through a beautifully choreographed performance that surpassed the standard of previous years.

‘Second Chance’ was not only the name but became the nature of this performance due to unforeseen circumstances. However Stage Challenge recognised their oversight in placing our group in a non competitive category in the Northland competition, and entered us in the Hamilton Stage Challenge event. Mrs Tucker and Mrs Bellingham had a window of two days to re- gather their troupe with the support of Mr Paitai (acting Principal) and the on-going support of our community and parents, managed to arrive in Hamilton on Tuesday 26th June for rehearsal to deliver a fantastic representation of Far North performance which impressed the Waikato judges and the audience.

The professionalism of the ten Secondary Schools competing was outstanding. Trucks came from various schools to off load huge, elaborate sets. Many thousands of dollars were spent on these sets and costumes alone and ours were minimal by comparison. Kaitaia College was placed third our of 10 which cemented our place as one of the top performing schools in New Zealand.

Kaitaia College won Excellence for Choreography & Excellence for Drama, and repeated the Awards of Excellence gained at the Northland round for Excellence in: Concept, Soundtrack, Costuming and Character, Set Design and Function, Visual Enhancement, School Community, Student Achievement.
