Rugby Union

Kaitaia College has a long history of Ruby Union players, some of whom have made it to the All Blacks and/or Maori All Blacks. Previous coaches for the Boys' have been Mate Radich, George Riley, Wihi Stevenson, Nigel Matthews, Martin Stevenson, Selwyn Subritzky, Dave Jurlina and Carl Mehana to name a few; current coach is Clendon Pene.

In 2016 the team was honoured with a visit and korero from ex-All Blacks Mike Burgoyne, Mike Clamp and Eroni Clarke at the Kaitaia Volunteer Fire Brigade premises. This was part of the after match for the "very close" pre-season game with Mt Albert Grammar.

The Girls' Rugby team began in the 1990's and was initially coached by teacher Warwick Reed, who then passed the coaching mantal to Raymond Subritzky. The team was very successful in the early years, winning their competition nearly every year. In latter years their coach has been Whaea Allie Kingi.

For the 2018 season, we were lucky enough to have the expertise of Te Kura Ngata-Arengamate who has been a relief teacher at Kaitaia College. Te Kura is a New Zealand rugby footballer who has represented New Zealand in rugby union and the Cook Islands in rugby league. She debuted for the Black Ferns in 2014 against Australia. She was named in the Black Ferns squad for the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup in Ireland.
