The College has trained Student Mediators available for students in need of support. Kaitaia College student mediators - Y2M (Yes to Mediation).
Mediators at Kaitaia College are part of a whole school approach in dealing with repairing the hurt and harm through a formalised process; and fits neatly alongside Restorative Practices. The ‘Violence and NZ Young People Report 2007’ states that many young people are not talking to adults about the violence they experience and are not accessing the help that they need.

Pre-Mediation
Setting up a mediation space. The Mediating Pair decides who: • will run the mediation • who will ‘Map the Conflict and Debrief’.
Mediation
Our School Counsellor is Ms Clare Hubbard. She is supported by our RTLB - Ms Sharyn Van Heerden. This team can be found in the Guidance Suite downstairs next to the Student Centre, and are also available to students who need support.
